Passport application

(Querist) 08 February 2016 This query is : Resolved 
My friend's father's application for fresh passport is put on hold for suppression of old expired passport and penalty rs 2000/-. Now he is not interested in taking fresh passport due to no travel plans in the whole life due to old age and illness. Is it compulsory to pay the penalty even if he is not interested in pursuing further on earlier application of passport which is kept on hold.Will the file be get automatically closed after one year.Please reply

Please inform of the provision of law under which the fine has been imposed.

It depends on individual to pay the fine and proceed or not to follow further.
