Irresponsible father

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 07 February 2024 This query is : Resolved
My father is an irresponsible person. I just want to safeguard myself against his irresponsible habits. If tomorrow any income tax demands comes against him how can I prevent myself because I have not done any mistake. I have heard that after death legal hiers have to pay income tax. Also I do’t want anything from him. Is there any way to remove myself from legal hiers also any alternate way to prevent myself from this monster? Plz suggest
Quick Summary
If you're concerned about your father's irresponsible financial behaviour and potential future income tax demands, you're likely wondering how to protect yourself. While you cannot remove yourself from being a legal heir, you can relinquish your rights to any ancestral or self-acquired property. This action should prevent you from being liable for his debts, including tax obligations, unless you have inherited assets.

You have not been able to convey your problem.

You will not be liable for the consequences or debts your father incurred during his lifetime.
If you have inherited any property then you will be held liable to that extent alone, hence nothing to be worried about it

There is no way to remove your name from the legal heir certificate. But you can relinquish your rights over the ancestral/self acquired of your father's properties. You will not be liable for your father's debts as you relinquish your rights over the property.
