Dear Sir,
I made payments to a builder some through bank loan and remaining from my savings for buying a flat. Now, I seem to have misplaced a few of the receipts. The payment details are available in my bank statements. Is it possible to ask for duplicate receipts from the builder and is he bound by law to provide me the receipts. Please advise how should I approach the builder for claiming receipts as he will be reluctant in providing these.
many thanks

It is not a big issue even some receipts are misplaced as you have the evidence in hand that the payments are through Bank accounts. He may not be in a position to give you new receipts once he has issued to you. However, you can ask him to give a letter acknowledging all the payments with cheque numbers. That is enough for you.

I agree with Expert Malipeddi Jaggarao. Do not assume builder may deny having recieved payments.

Ask him the statement of account showing you all your deposit or as advised by the expert ask for letter mentioning all your deposits.

You can ask him the statement of account of all payment and other transactions made to him, in any case since you have made all the transactions through bank, you do not have to worry about the denial by the builder.
