Whethe name change required in educational certificates?

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 24 December 2011 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

I am from Bangaore, I have changed my name after marriage. I have assumed a new name after wedding which is almost different from my old name. Following is the procedure which I followed for name change: 1. Consulted an advocate and made an affidavit with the notary,

2. Advertised in 2 of the national dailies.

3. Contacted Karnataka government press for the name change to be published in gazette. But there the authorities told me that since I work in private sector(I am not a government employee)they can not publish my name change in gazette notification, and they have given me a circular stating the same which is based on a karnataka name change act of 1967.Hence my name cange could not be published in karnataka gazette.

This is what I have gone through till now. Now I have few questions.

1. Is the name change procedure which I followed is correct? And is it correct that in karnataka gazette they won't publish name change of people working in private companies?

2. Is it compulsory to change my name in the academic certificates? I am 30 years old and I do not wish to change it in my educational certificates.

3.I am planing to go abroad on work permit, will it affect my career abroad if I do not change my name in my educational certificates? I am planing to change my name in passport, pan card, voter id, aadhar card, and in my bank account. Need I get any other document for name change so that I will not have any difficulty in future, in India as well as abroad.

Kindly advice.

Thanks in advance.

You have to publish the change of name in Gazette. This will be the record to be enclosed along with the documents and certificates.

Hi Mr. Isaac Gabriel, I really agree with your point, but karnataka govt do not provide any gazette notification for non govt employees of karnataka, hence I only received a circular stating the same. Now

Well, I thank all of you for your valuable replies. I applied for publication of name change in gazette at karnataka govt press, below is the content of the circular they have issued me.

EXTRACT COPY OF THE GAZETTE DATED 29TH JUNE 1967
OFFICE OF THE COMPILER, KARNATAKA GAZETTE

gsp/cn/XXX/circular/2011-12/XXX/XXX/XXX/XXX dated:XX/XX/XXXX

CIRCULAR

Sub:Procedure to be adopted for publication of change of names of persons who are not in karntaka state government service.

Ref:As per karnataka govt. press manual para no.313.

------------

govt. in their order no. GAD 1 DCN 66 dated 8th march 1967, have laid down the procedure for the change of names only in respect of karnataka state govt. servants. Those persons who are not in karnataka state govt. service have to seek their own legal advice as to the procedure which they should follow.

sd
compiler.

to, my new name
address.

Now, i dont think this will suffice the issue of a gazette publication, hence if I have to publish the name in gazette of india , how can I go about it? I mean do they have a website? I googled and found a few but that looked more like a private firm than a public office. I do not want to change my name in my educational certificates, but I do not want to have any problem with my name in the future even in India and abroad.
