Hello sir, I m working in a PSU (BSNL), where i have got a letter under RTI act for asking information about Salary structure of our all employees (the strength is more than 500) and a copy of attendance register. i would like to know to how extent a outsider can ask us to submit information about these kind of issues. Can be refuse him to ask this kind of personal information of employees...? Moreover, a huge time is involved in compilation of this information, how we can charge him for this..? can it be denied..?

You are working in BSNL so its a govt. company.
You must provide the information within specified time period(30 days).
Otherwise you have to face legal consequences

You must provide the information, you can collect the cost per page as per the RTI rules, from the petitioner.

You are bound by the act to provide the act.

you can charge as per the size of the documents.

what is the heavy work involved in providing a copy of the attendance sheet?

further, every month salary bills are prepared, and give a copy of the same.

from the outset,we may such questions in rti are harassment in nature. People ask such questions fed up with the harassment done to them by various "baboos' in the heirarchy and answering such questions is a price to pay for such harassment.

Note:I know,I am answering beyond the limit of the query.

Dear Anonymous,

You have not posted the question as asked by the applicant, but has given your understanding of the query.

Each query has to be approached from the way the question has been put, rather than your understanding of it.

It is also not clear for what period or date the query relates. Since in a big organization like BSNL, especially when your unit has more than 500 employees, they may be coming and going on account of transfer etc. Therefore, one has to see the question and provide the appropriate answer.

Since you will not be able to paste the RTI application here, for obvious reasons, you may get in touch with me on my mobile given in my profile, and I can be of some help to you. (By the way I was earlier with DOT/BSNL).
