Written statement and witness

(Querist) 17 October 2012 This query is : Resolved 
1.What is the importance of a written statement in CPC?
2. Can a witness not named in the written statement be called for cross.?
3.if there is contradications between written statement and Proof of affidavit. Which one is important.?

Are there any SC judgments on the above aspects? if so can u give me a link?
