i am a practising chartered accountant. can i run my profession in a residential complex?
Parveen Kr. Aggarwal (Expert) 26 April 2011
Yes.

In V.Sasidharan V/s Peter and Karunakar AIR 1984 Supreme court 1700 the question for decision before the Supreme Court was whether the office of a lawyer or of a firm of lawyers is or is not a commercial establishment within the meaning of the Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1960. It was held that it does not require any strong argument to justify the conclusion that the office of a lawyer or a firm of lawyers is not a “shop” within the meaning of section 2(15).”

M V Gupta (Expert) 28 April 2011
But be careful. The above decision of the SC is not of universal application. It is based on the definition of "Shop" as contained in the Kerala Act. Hence u have to check the position under your state's Shops and Establishments Act.
