What is distinction between orders for investigation passed under 156 (3) and 202 ?

A magistrate can send a petition of complaint for investigation under section 156(3) and for enquiry under section 202.

I differ.

156(3) is the pre-cognizance stage. Directing the police to register and investigate the case.

202 is after taking cognizance but before sending summons to the accused. It is a private complaint.
