In a matter filed U/s. 138 of NIA whether witness of complainant can lead evidence orally or in writing ? If so why ?

Since the complainant filed a complaint under Section 138 of the N.I. Act before the Judicial Magistrate and the Court while conducting the summary trial prescribed under the Act considered the material evidence of complainant/witness on record both orally and written examination-in chief to punish for guilty or discharge of the case.
