One of my friend has done a sting operation using internet. He had sex chat with some famous political person in the guise of a girl (in girl's name). Now he wants to publish it in the news paper. He never used those chats for blackmailing that person.
My question is whether it amounts to cyber crime? It is a sting operation. He just unmasked the political person.

What is the guarantee that the person is the same famous political leader, he may be x,y or z using the name just as a screen name like your friend did, posing like a female, without ascertaing facts and establishing true identity your friend is likely to land in trouble and may be in news for the wrong reasons.

Dear Vishal...
Atmost care is taken to prove that issue. He has concrete proofs. Some of the chats r from mobile. He has mobile bills also. Now tell me about other issues...
Definitely it is a cyber crime. And your friend is the criminal. Here, the political person did not invite Mr. X (disguised Ms. X) to have a chat. Mr. X voluntarily invited the political person for chat under impersonation.
If published in newspapers it amounts to defamation.
How did Mr. X got access into the account of the politician is to be seen. If proved, Mr. X may land in jail as hacking is a criminal offence under the Information Technology Act. For further guidance ask your friend to contact Poornaprajna Cyber Quest, cyber crime investigators, in Bangalore with full details.
