i am a govt . engineer . one of my staff has made some seriously threatening remarks against me . context was purely departmental nothing personal.what are the laws and sections supporting me to get a legal protection from such miscreants? there is fear factor that i have been living here in Chennai lonely and that my family and friends are only my native.

If the comments were made in presence of other employees which apart form threatening you were sufficient to belittle your public image before them, you could apart from alleging criminal intimidation file case for defamation as well.

Govt servant intending to vindicate his stand in official capacity, in court of law need permission of deptt. The same may hoold good for defamation but for intimidation you are moving for perosnal protection irrespective of official stand.

If acts alleged were made in such circumstances with which no official function was connected, no previous sanction is needed.
No governmental job entitle a person to criminally intimidate another colleague in performance of his official duty.

Police Protection - Depends on your threat perception.

You can lodge a complaint in this regard.

What type of threatening you have received from an employee when you have stated the "context was purely departmental nothing personal?"

Anyway, whatever threatening in the departmental context has been received, you need to report to the higher authorities to make them alert on time.

Agree with Dhingra Sir.
First of all you should report the matter to your higher authorities.
