Power of attorney

(Querist) 28 December 2011 This query is : Resolved
I am an NRI living in India at present. I had sent a power of attorney (GPA) to my daughter in order to deal with my bank for mortgage renewel etc.

The bank is asking for a "Letter of Opinion" with the GPA.

Can someone please tell me what is this "Letter of Opinion" as I have no idea what are they talking about. I have never heard of a "letter of opinion" to be sent with the GPA, any ideas!!! Thanks

Did you execute the GPA in India or from abroad?
If from India and the GPA is a registered one then no additional documents are required.

A new term for me. i too would like to know what it is.

So far I knew that a 'Letter of Opinion'is written to an editor of a newspaper or magazine expressing a reader’s opinion.

By analogy i guess that Bank is asking a letter addressed to it's branch manager from donor in his own hand writing to confirm the fact that in so and so way on such and such date he has appointed his daughter his POA to execute mortgage documents and do all in favor bank.

Presume that the said 'letter of opinion' is the confidential status report about you, from your banker abroad.

BANK ITSELF WILL CLARIFY.
WHAT MR. PRABHAKAR SINGH SAYS HAD A MEANING,
BANK MAY NEED A LETTER, FOR VERIFICATION, AND CONFIRMATION OF poa. Any way , it is new demand by Bank. Bank must be consulted, and get clarification of their requirement.
Shailesh Kr. Shah (Expert) 02 January 2012
Ask bank to clarify.
