what is the importance of affidavit in civil practice, and what is the phrase ' to be filed by Affidavit'mean ?

(cf.Affidavit is a sworn statement in writing made especially under oath or an affirmation before an authorised magistrate or officer.(Websters Dictionary).When a person declares or affirms on oath he /she is bound by the statement. If it turns out to be false the person giving the affidavit would be liable for prosecution for perjury, when made before a court. However the facts stated in it cannot be recieved as evidence unless corroborated. in re Iswar Chandar Guho (1887) 14 Cal. 653.(see Judicial Dictionary by Mitra.)
