Can I name my shipping company as LEGITIMATE MARINE SERVICES ????

I don't think that there should be any issue, so long as such a name is available for registration and such a name is not infringing on anyone else's trade mark/name.
If your query stems from the anxiety to know whether the use of the word 'legitimate' would be taken as an offence by others meaning thereby that if your's is 'legitimate' the automatic inference of other's business is 'illegitimate'- you need not fear. For we already have 'Reliance' that does not automatically mean others are not 'reliable'.

Legitimate means legal, valid, genuine etc., Assume people consider legitimate as legal " Legal Marine Services ". It sounds like you are providing legal services to Marine Industry.
When you are considering a name for the company in marine industry
It can be
1) Aquatic
2) Oceanic etc.,
Sincerely suggest not to go for " LEGITIMATE"

yes I do agree with Nagaraj, you have to obtain prior permission from Trade Mark Registry to use such highly generic words like SOUTH INDIA, People.
