I have a savings account with ICICI Bank. 45 days before my wife went to a branch in Coimbatore to deposit Rs 5000/= cash in my account. She deposited the cash thru the teller machine, but made a mistake in entering my account number. SO the cash got deposited in some others account. She realized it only when she got the receipt. Immediately she filed the complain with the bank and got acknowledgment. The bank personnel told her that money can be transferred to my account only if they get consent from the account holder where it was wrongly deposited. But even after 45 days the bank is not able to contact the other account holder and get his consent. As per their policy they are not able to give contact details of the account holder so that i can follow up. What are my options in this case as it seems that the other account holder is not giving his consent?

the bank can transfer the wrong entries ! but it takes a little time - The Bank has to follow their procedural aspects also !

Dear Anonymous, It is advisable to put the Bank under notice with its copy to Ombudsman stating that it is the duty of the Bank to put into action your wife's instructions and not to delay carrying out the instructions in the matter as per the "Bank Manual" failing which you reserve right to seek appropriate remedy including but not limited to seek damages as well. Best Regards Daksh

Yes . You can send notice to Bank and if bank is relectant to take action then you have to move legally. I am thinking ICICI bank shall not come under Ombudsman.

Here is a clear case of ICICI bank's reputation in the market. Yes, it is legal obligation of the bank to rectify the transaction and customer can file a complaint both to RBI and Banking Ombudsman
