According to a notification under the Environment (Protection) Act, firecrackers generating noise levels exceeding 125 decibel impulse noise or 145 decibel peak noise are prohibited and the police will take action against those found bursting them.

If there are thatched huts in a colony or locality police rounds will there to prevent firing of crackers in the vicinity.
However accidents do occur and Chennai there were couple huts gutted and many were in hospital as out patients for burns and injuries.
Rules are published but police could not enforce them.
