Damages for defamation

(Querist) 26 July 2012 This query is : Resolved 
If i want to sue someone for (slander) defemation. How could i decide as to be the proper amount for damages to be claimed from that person? In cases of slander / spoken defemation , how much amount can be claimed in a civil suit for damages ? How to calculate the damages if there is no actual damage and it is only punitive part of damage ?
