My Father (40%)and his brother (60%) are joint owners of a residential flat. The electricity connection is in the name of the builder as the builder had not transfered conveyance in the name of the society since building it. There is a dispute over electricity usage in the premises we reside. Currently our electricity suppliers is Reliance.
Query: I would like to know the procedure to change the supplier from reliance to TATA, and whether we can face any obstruction from my uncle who is the joint owner of the property. Also, is it possible to get a fresh connection from TATA in the name of my father, and continue the current connection from Reliance (which is in the name of the builder) for use by my uncle?

request the builder to get electricity connection transferred in name of flat owners . generally builders help flat owners to get flat meter in name of owners . nominal charges are levied .
2)in case you desire to change your connection from reliance to tata please visit the website of tata power which mentions in detail the procedure to be adopted . in short you have to fill in application form , copy of your PAN card , residence proof , latest electricity bill of reliance with proof of being paid by you .
3)if you ahve one electricity meter i doubt you can ahve 2 connections

I agree with expert Ajay Sethi. It seems that you do not have a connection in your name. Approach your builder to help you getting a flat meter of company of your choice. Follow advice of Expert Ajay Sethi

You can file an application to the EB department along with the proof of ownership. They will change the connection in your name. Of course there will be a nominal charge for this.
You need not go behind the builder.
