Respected lawyers, you are requested to kindly differentiate between Scheduled Caste and Backward Class.

These differences are as per gazette notification. we have nearly 6500 castes i might b eknowing. In this the bifarcation was made as schedule caste by their religion and backward class was made due to thier economic backwardness

Articles 341 and 342 of the Constitution of India define as to who would be Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes with respect to any State or Union Territory.

Backward Classes of Citizens means the class or classes of citizens who are socially and educationally backward as may be notified by the Government.
