Defamation case

Hi Sir,

In the month of february 2012 ,local court cancelled a criminal case on my name. Verdict is in my favour. Now I want to file a defamation case against the person who harassed me intentionally in that case ( he is the one who filed case against me in police station). can you please guide me on that.

1) Is there any time limit for me to take decision and file defamation case against him ?

2) its more than 6 months from the time verdict came in my favour . Did I made any mistake by not filing it immediately ?

3) what are the expenses involved in it ?
