Daughter's daughter share in ancestral property before 2005 amendment?

(Querist) 19 September 2011 This query is : Resolved

Question - What was the share of daughter’s daughter in ancestral property in 1974?
Facts:
F (Father -died in 1960)
Heirs:
M (Mother – died in 1972), 6 Sons, 3 Daughters

What was share of a Daughter’s daughter in 1974 after death of Daughter (Daughter died in 1974)? The daughter had two sons and two daughters at time of her death.

I have calculated it to be 1/144 share, as per Hindu Succession Act as the Act stood before Amendment of 2005.
Plz. Correct me if I am wrong.

I have attached a document in which I have given the Family tree and the procedure I followed to determine the share of daughter's daughter.

Your calculation is very perfect right from the word go. Well done.

Since you have given 1 share to the wife of the deceased, I take it that the partition does not relate to Madras (Dravidian) School of Mitakshara Hindu Family.

This is because, only in Bombay, Mithila and Benaras schools of Mitakshara the wife gets a share in the ancestral property at the time of partition. The wife does not get a share in the Madras (Dravida) School.

Your calculation is absolutely correct. I also belong to Haryana wherein same rules were applicable in 1974.
