Contempt case

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 01 April 2011 This query is : Resolved
If proved that a contempt of the orders of the High Court orders has been made, what would be the punishment under law.
A V Vishal (Expert) 02 April 2011
It depends solely on the merits of the case. In absence of details it is not possible to say what the punishment would be.
R.Ramachandran (Expert) 02 April 2011
Whenever such contempt cases are filed, it is for the court to decide whether at all there is contempt and if so, what are the explanations / replies given by contemnor, whether the contemnor consciously committed such contemot, or whether the contemnor tenders unconditional apology etc. etc. Based on these facts, either the court may punish or even let off with a warning. It depends. All contempts need not necessarily lead to punishment.
Advocate. Arunagiri (Expert) 03 April 2011
It is the discretion of the court.
