Change in mother's surname in child's birth certificate

(Querist) 07 March 2015 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

It would be very helpful if you could answer my query. In my child's birth certificate, Mother's surname is mentioned as husband's surname whereas, in all my documents the surname is my maiden name. Now I want to change my son's birth certificate so that it reflects my maiden name in it. Please guide me through. Thanks.

Try to get suitable amends in the registration of the birth and get a new one.Else, you can amend during admission at school.
Advocate M.Bhadra (Expert) 08 March 2015
collect information about the procedure from the local municipal authority, which may vary from State to State. Affirm an affidavit and publish in a newspaper and same submit along with others documents to local authority to get fresh birth certificate.

If in all the documents of your son your name with husbands surname is mentioned, no need to get the name change in birth certificate. However if you want change, consult municipality office.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 11 March 2015
The birth registration authorities will not entertain changes in the birth certificate in general, however, you can approach the authorities but you can always get it published in the government gazette and can sigh a relief.
