Income tax

Dear Experts,

Our housing Co-op society proposes to invite Maintenance Fund Deposit ( Interest free ) from its member.
The Society further proposes to keep the same in a Co-Operative Bank in the Joint Name i.e. Society will be at First Name, Jointly with concerned member at second place.

The interest accrued on such deposit will be credited to the society's account directly by bank and society in turn will adjust the same amount in the maintenance fund payable by the member from time to time.
further, at the time of maturity, the fund will go back to member's account as per the terms and conditions laid down while putting the FDs with Bank.

Query :-

What will be the Income Tax Liability of such interest income generated.

Interest is credited directly to Hsg Society's account (exempted being co-op to co-op).
Or, will it be liable to member ???

Thanks and Regards

Filling of income tax return needed?

Dear Sir,
My mother is a retired employee. She has PAN no. She is now 70 years of age. Her source of income since her retirement is pension, interest from Bank FD's, Interest from Post Office's MIS and Post Office's RDs. She has interest statement from Bank's but not from Post Office. My query is as following:

1. Since her retirement she has not filled income tax return as her income from all above sources were below 2,00,000/-. Does there was necessity of filling income tax return?

2. Her money accumulated all these years. Now her income from all these sources is above 2,00,000/- but less than 2,60,000/-. Is there a need of filling income tax from this assessment year.

Please suggest.

Please advice

I got a call from someone's mobile and he told that I am from sales tax department and the person was misleading me by saying that the department would soon send several notices to me. When I inquired about his identity from some other source I found that he is a peon in sales tax department. Actually I think one of our competitor gave some money to that peon of sales tax department to call me in order to make me feel scared despite of the fact I pay tax in time. Now,I want to phone the peon again please advice how to talk to him(peon) as he was misrepresenting his post.
