Transfer of gift recd

(Querist) 20 March 2008 This query is : Resolved
What would be the formalities to transfer a property received as gift from father to sister and mother so that all three of us have legal rights on them. The property has three houses in one building. Also is the father's assent required as it is was purchased from his earnings. Who are the people who have legal rights to question this transfer?
Rajesh Kumar (Expert) 20 March 2008
The only person who has a right in the property is the person who received the property in gift. Once gift has been given, the person gifting the property has no right in the property and as such his consent is not required legally- morally you may have an obligation to take his consent.
If you want to share the property with other persons, you can gift a portion of the property to them.
