Personal loan default-reg

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 20 November 2025 This query is : Resolved
Sir,
I got personal loan and i am unable to pay in time. Now partly i am paying even though the bank taken legal steps. Meanwhile, bank people called me by phone and responded by me for payment. They have filed suit and so far i didnot get any notice on suit filed from bank. NeSL sending a email on registration of the default issue for which, NeSL requesting me to register. But i am unable register and not able to give authentication of the default issue. I need clarification that whether NeSL will publish my name as defaulters openly or not?
Quick Summary
If you've defaulted on a personal loan and are unable to register with NeSL (National e-Governance Services Ltd.) regarding the default, it's crucial to address this. NeSL records financial debts and defaults but does not publish public defaulter lists or take recovery action. Failure to respond to their authentication requests can lead to the debt being 'deemed authenticated', which can be used as evidence in future legal proceedings and negatively impact your credit profile. Contact NeSL's helpdesk at helpdesk@nesl.co.in for assistance with registration issues.

If you do not respond to the NeSL registration email can lead to the debt being considered "deemed authenticated," which could result in legal action and negative impacts on your credit profile, even if you cannot register. The inability to register needs to be addressed to prevent potential legal consequences and disputes. You should contact NeSL or the creditor to resolve the technical issue so you can respond to the request. If you want clear clarification, you can contact helpdesk@nesl.co.in.

NeSL (National e-Governance Services Ltd.) is India’s Information Utility (IU) under the IBC, 2016.
Its job is to record financial debts and defaults electronically.
It does NOT take recovery action.
It does NOT publish public defaulter lists.
When a bank reports that a borrower has defaulted, NeSL sends:

A Debt Information notice

An Authentication Request
You (the borrower) must log in and authenticate / reject the information.
Even if you don’t authenticate, the bank’s record may still be “deemed authenticated” after a period.
NeSL does not publish borrower names publicly.
Your information is stored securely and is visible only to:
You (the borrower)
If you do nothing:

The default may be treated as “Deemed authenticated” after 48 hours or after the stipulated period as per NeSL rules.
The bank can use these records as evidence in future legal or insolvency proceedings. The financial creditor (bank/NBFC)
Insolvency professionals in case of IBC proceedings.
