If nothing mentioned in your appointment letter, normally there is 30 day's notice period, as per the Sohps & Establishment Act of the State concerned.

It depends on the service contract. In the absence of any such contract/ agreement, please look in the appointment letter. If nothing is available in the letter too, it is left to you to decide. It can be presumed that you are free to liberate yourself.
