Inclusion of Surname

(Querist) 12 October 2008 This query is : Resolved
I am from Chennai. In my daughter's tenth standard school leaving certificate the initial( i e my name) is missing. Now she is applying for the 12th Board Exam from a different school. The school is refusing to include the initial saying that it is not in the tenth certificate. I want to officially include it in the gazette. What is the procedure, time taken and is it essential that I take the services of an advocate? Grateful to get clarification. Thanks.

For inclusion of your daughter's surname both of you have to go to the Court{exicutive or 1st class magistrate within the jurisdiction of the place} and file an affidavit through a lawyer.Afterwards you have to publish this change in at least two local newspapers. After it the relevent State Govt.will publish your name change in its official gazette. You must keep the copy of this gazette as the authentic evidence of the name change.

There is no national procedure. You e=check up with the education department for change of name. If it is a correction or inclusion at any level there must a procedure.

Form/application for Alteration in name is to be submitted in the Gazzate and then the same is published and then it is valid
