MAHARASTRA RENT CONTROL ACT 1999

Section 55: With effect from 1-04-2000, Tenancy and Leave and Licence agreements are to be in writing and compulsorily registerable. The registration, of agreement is responsibility of the Landlord. Failure to get the agreement registered will be an offence. Landlord on conviction shall be punishable to 3 months imprisonment or fine not exceeding Rs.5,000/- or with both.
