Cheque reject issues

Sir,
I have deposited the cheque of ₹300000 into contractor's account , but it bounce back with 500₹ fine and the reason mentioned was signature mismatch. When I went to my bank and asked them about this they said that , actually your signature is matching but it was a higher amount so, we call you for confirmation but you didn't respond so we cancelled this cheque.
So should I ask bank to refund the fine and to clear the same cheque because they mentioned wrong reason for cancelation.

Seems to be hypothetical query.
Your statement, "we cancelled this cheque, has no relevance. we cancelled this cheque. How a cheque issued by the drawer can be cancelled by the bank. Bouncing back has nothing to do with cancellation of cheque by bank.

Sir p.s dhingra . "we cancelled this cheque "is not mine statement. It's their.
And I deposited that cheque in contractor's bank account which is different bank. When there bank send that cheque for clearance , my bank rejected that.

Lodge complaint with the Bank for wrongful dishonor of the cheque and demand penalty / compensation. Can move to consumer forum.

Unbelievable! The Bank can dishonour a check, but do not have any authority to cancel cheque of the account holder.
However, you are free to ask the bank to refund penalty, if they quoted wrong reason for dishonour.

Thank you for clearing my doubt about asking penalty refund from bank. Although I have issued the another cheque, but your suggestion gives me a confidence and now I can ask them to refund my fine.
