Dear Experts, whether a law firm should be compulsorily a partnership of 2 or more lawyers or an individual lawyer can start a law firm like a proprietorship concern? Thank You.

Sir,
Only the partnerships are called 'Firms' and not a proprietoryship concern.
Therefore minimum two partners are required to be called a 'Firm'.
An individual lawyer can practice but cannot have the tag of proprietoryship concern.

A proprietoryship is called a 'concern'.
A partnership is called a 'Firm'.
Therefore while one can run a law chamber in whatever name say Mr. X can run a law chamber under the name X and Associates, but that will not be called a law firm in its legal sense. Though the public can believe it is a firm - because the public is not interested in lifting the veil and knowing whether it is an individual practice, or a law firm and if it is a firm who are all partners and what is there share etc.
So, to be called a Law Firm legally, it must be a partnership - which again requires minimum two partners.
