Correction in name

(Querist) 09 June 2013 This query is : Resolved
My Name in office is based on my school ccertificate. However I would like to add my surname to it. Is it necessary to do it legally or otherwise i can add it just like that in my office records and documents? In case legal course is to be adopted, kindly suggest the procedure and how long it take to get effected?

Further, all my school certificates are from delhi whereas presently i am residing in hyderabad, AP and working here. So where do I need to the change in legal name?

Get an affidavit notarised giving particulars of your new name, publish in two (English) and local (prefer Hindi) newspapers. Send them for Gazzatte notification in Delhi or AP.
After gazzatte publication, approach authorities for necessary change in the documents

Legally there is no such requirement and an employee can definitely do use his sirname even though the same do not find mentioned in his educational certificates. Even then if you require, follow the advice as provided above.
