Tying Mangal Sutra on the neck of the bride is one of the important customs in Hindu Marriage. According to Sec. 7 of the HMA, 1955, A Hindu marriage may be solemnized in accordance with the customary rites and ceremonies of either party thereto. Thus, if tying Mangal Sutra is one of the customs and if it was not performed, then the marriage would not be considered to have been solemnized.

We have custom for the same. I also tied in front of the nupital fire. but before the same my wife was also wearing in the neck at the time on var-mala. Is it fine for a girl to tie mangalsutra before husband tie the same.

I agree with Mr.Ramachandran. Your second query is not based on any legal aspect. It has to be answered by people who are conversant and thorough with your caste customs.

Now all marriages are compulsorily Registrable. It is immaterial if any ritual, however important has been given a go-bye.It does not invalidate a marriage.

Saptpadi is essential and that too before sacred fire. Mangalsutra is not necessary.
