Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 24 February 2011 This query is : Resolved
my wife got expired after 9 months of marriage. all rituals were done only in presence of her natural parents. then after 10 days they wrote a letter of 10 pages to society saying that we killed their daughter. they asked society in written for taking some action against my family. some of the office bearers of society being relatives of my in-laws took their side and asked us on verbal basis to return jewellery to them. though my in-laws have not done legal complaint, can i suit a case of defamation against them? please help...

Yes since the defamatory statements were used by your in laws to the third person(society) who are stranger to you, the publication of the defamation has occured and hence your in laws are liable for defamation.

my wife expired on late night (1am) of 30/08/10. my inlaws have given letter to society on 10th of sep,10. society did a meeting on 5/10/10 regarding this. We are chasing society from that time continuosly for the result of meeting through registered with ad letters. but even they are not giving any written consent. They are just asking us to forget everything that happened. Is there any time limit to complaint for defamation?? do society will be also effected if i suit a case of defamation against my inlaws?
