In terms of Section 58 of the Partnership Act, 1932,theregistration of a firm has to got done with the Registrar of the Area in which any place of business of the firm is situated or proposed to be situated.
Once a partnership has been registered in a State, there is no requirement for further registration of the same partnership name in any other State.
[However, if the Partnership Firm is running any branches and the said branch business is running under a different name, then separate registration of such branch in the State in which is running business is necessary.]
In terms of Section 60 of the Partnership Act, when there is an alteration in the name of the Firm or location of the principal place of business of a registered Firm, the same has to be notified to the Registrar with whom the Firm has been originally registered. The same registrar will effect the changes in the Register.
THUS THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT FOR REGISTRATION AT ANY OTHER STATE. IF AT ALL SOMEBODY WANTS TO GET IT VOLUNTARILY REGISTERED - THEN THEY HAVE TO INDICATE THE PRINCIPAL PLACE OF BUSINESS AS THE ORIGINAL PLACE/STATE - THE MOMENT THE SAME IS INDICATED THE OTHER REGISTRAR WILL REFUSE TO REGISTER THE FIRM IN THE NEW STATE.
