Lock in period and Notice

Hi
My leave and licence (rent) agreement has a lock in period of 6 months and a separate clause of 1 month notice to vacate from both sides. Can I give a month's notice exactly 1 month before the lock in period of 6 months ends (at the beginning of 6th month). My landlord claims that notice period can start only after lock in period ends!!
Please suggest.
