Benefits under pain and unpaid leave

(Querist) 30 May 2012 This query is : Resolved
Dear Experts,

In India what benefits are available to an employee when he is -
1. On paid leave
2. on unpaid leave
Guest (Expert) 30 May 2012
Your question is not clear about what sort of benefits you intend to refer by virtue of paid or unpaid leave, except the wages/salary?

Moreover, every Central or State Governments and private organisation have their own leave rules, which differ in provisions from each other.

Dear sir,
I intend to know whether allowance eg car allowance/Mediclaim facility should be given to employees on unpaid leave as it is given to those on paid leave of absence.

You do not even disclose who the employer is and what are the terms of employment if it is non-govt employer.

Depends on the prescribed rules & regulations of the organisation concerned to which the employee serves.

However, as a general rule, car allowance is made only for the purpose of travelling to and fro in connection with discharge of duties and responsibilities of the employee. So, there is no scope of grant of car allowance to any employee merely to enjoy his leave.

Mediclaim, of course, is meant for the treatment of the employee or his family members, if he has taken medical treatment for any illness, So, there is no scope of debarring him from claiming mediclaim even during unpaid leave, more particularly when he or any of his family members is hospitalised.

Dear Dhingra sir,

I am fan of you understanding and clear interpretation. Also for excusing my typos :).

Siddiqui Sir ,

I never intended to make fun of this forum.
Excuse me, if you felt so.

Dear Surya Prabha,

Thanks for your complements. I always try to share my knowledge in a manner, which others can easily understand.

I can understand about typos. I could realise well what you wanted to type (paid), while you typed "pain" in the topic heading of the question. I understand well, nobody tries to do intentionally but sometimes that happens unintentionally or through an oversight on the part of anyone while punching keys on the keyboard.
