Iilegal fine from Co-op Hsg Society Ltd

I am member of Dreams CHS, Bhandup. Recently I had my kitchen tap open & water from my apartment overflowed to 1 of the elevators & it was damaged.
The cost for repairing the elevator is 85,000/- which the society committee is pressurizing me to bear. The act of damaging the elevator was not intentional.
Pls advise me on it. Is it legal for society to collect charges from individual member?

Such matter should be dealt with mutual understanding otherwise litigation is inevitable and nothing can be obtained therefrom. society officers/office bearers can be got understood by some of your favorable members to minimize the cost of loss.
