Disclosure of relationship

FIR was lodged for fraud and forgery against the agent for issuance fake insurance. The police investigated and found that the insurance was fake. The IO asks me that when the agent was my own real relative why I have not disclose to him earlier about the relationship with the agent. Further the IO says that disclose of relationship is also an offence. Kindly advice whether it was mandatory to mention about relationship.

If not mandatory to mention the relationship at the time of filling FIR than now after more than a year when the accused appeared before the IO it is not understood why IO is telling me that I should have let him know that the accused was his relative and disclosure of the same is also offense. Please advice if IO can take any action against me for not disclosing the relationship with my relative earlier and do I need to take any precaution.
