Guy cheated a bunch through committee / lottery system

Hi,
One of my friend Deepak , started a Committee / Lottery System, in which I & my other 3 friends also participated. As per that system we paid monthly installments on regular basis. when the committee was at the verge of completion, Deepak withdraw that committee & when we asked him to return back our deposited money back, he denied to return by saying that "We don't have any written proof against him" & that is true. Because we joined him by trusting on him. But he cheated us by a Huge amount (around 10 Lakhs). Could there any provision under law that we 4 guys can claim him as Cheater or ladge any FIR against him???

file a complaint u/s 420 ipc for cheating at the police station having jurisdiction since you say four parties are cheated your combined word will be acceptable as evidence however a lot depends on circumstances over which no predictions can be made but proceed immediately with legal action and chances are good in your favour

Deepak is unaware about law. He has heard only about civil law but not criminal. Make a police complaint and get lodged FIR against him failing which file a criminal complaint before trial magistrate of the area. Engage a local lawyer dealing in criminal cases.
