Private Sector Bank deducted money

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 09 May 2011 This query is : Resolved
Without giving any warning a private sector bank deducted Rs 825 claiming that average quarterly balance has not been maintained for savings account. As per them Rs 10,000 needs to be maintained per quarter in savings account. I have one sweep in FD account having Rs 12,000. It was funded from savings account and is also linked to my savings account for withdrawing money any time i.e. I can any time withdraw Rs 12,000 or part from ATM if I desire. But the bank says they are not going to consider this FD sweep in amount linked to savings account as part of savings account.

Any possibility of recovering Rs 825?

Send a notice to bank authorities and then file a complaint before DCDRF.

Check up as to whether there was such conditions, in the a/c opening form or in the SB pass book. If you had signed their forms agreeing for such terms, you will have to pay such charges. If you are not satisfied/happy with such conditions, change to another bank offering better service. It is not worth to fight to recover Rs.825/- through legal means.

Thank you Sirs for the answers. Yes it is not worth to do legal fighting for this amount as I will end up spending much more than this amount. I am trying to see if something simple can be done like giving a legal notice or ombudsman. I do not have any passbook from this bank, I will demand one passbook now. This was a salary saving account but now no salary is going into this account since I left the previous company. How do I get copy of account opening forms that I filled? Is it through RTI?

Dear Anonymous,
At the time of account opening itself it is notified what minimum balance that you have to maintain and what charges will be levied if that minimum is not maintained.
Moreover, if you had FD, then it is for you to advise the bank to sweep in the same to maintain your minimum balance.
Having not done this, I see no change of your getting the amount of Rs. 825/-.

Please lodge a detailed complaint on bank's customer care link. Also ask bank copy of rules and proof of supply of information of this rule to you. If you are not satisfied scale up to Nodal Officer of the bank [details in customer care link of website of bank].
