Reduction of principal amount in the fixed deposit by the bank

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 08 March 2011 This query is : Resolved 
I have Fixed deposits and savings accounts with the same bank. In order to take TDS from the interest, can the bank on its own decide to reduce the principal of a fixed deposit? Kindly advise and/ or point me to relevant website.

TDS is deducted only from the interest. Not from the principal.
