I want to purchase agricultural land owned by a muslim person. The land is his ancestral property. What precautions should I tale and who's signatures are needed on legal documents?

The property would be registered in some person or group of persons name.
Check that and proceed according to that.

There is no point to ensure about concept of ancestral property as that is not a concept prevalent and recognized by muslim law.
You are free to buy after 30 year inquiry of charges if any and verification of title and survey records with reference to present title records.
