Diff. between evidence & proof

What is the difference between "evidence" and "proof"?

Indian evidence act chapter 4,5,6 tells about evidence and its types.
chapter 7 deals the mode of proving evidence.

proof is a logical conclusion of the evidence produced

evidence comes after the proof

1. Evidence, consisting of facts, is the means by which proof is obtained.
2. Evidence is the cause and proof is its effect.
3.Evidence is the vehicle and proof is the destination.
4.Proof is achieved by persuading the Court to beleive that certian facts exist or to consider their existance probable. Proof is based on beleif and probability.

Proof admissible in law is evidence.

Proof is about existence of something, which may not be known earlier to some one. But evidence is to bring forth that proof to establish that beyond any doubt to arrive at some judgment in the case.
