hello sir, Can i file defamation suit against my sister in law and her mother. My sister in law is 17 years old and her mother is putting false allegations of sexual harrassment. she has put in false allegations infront of all my family members. i want to punish her through appropriate law. i have heard about this defamation suit. she has verbally said all this. my salary is 15000 per month and how much amount that i can impose her as penalty under defamation law. my family has gone through mental agony since last 2 months now. please kindly help.

Defamation is when a person harms the reputation of other, harming of reputation is when a person is brought down in the estimation of the society, obviously if a person faces allegations that he made or tried to make illicit advances to SIL or MIL - it is defamatory. You can file civil and criminal actions against them.

First issue a legal notice for defamation to both of them and claim heavy damages from them.

thanks you very much. as i told in my query my sister in law is a minor. She is 17 years and would be 18 years in septemeber. can she file any case of molestation against me. what would be cost of sending legal notice of defamation claiming heavy damages. Also i reside in mumbai and she resides out of mumbai. where would be the jurisdiction held.
