Cr.p.c 344 when applicable? is it applicable when accused is punished because of that deposition only or otherwise?

Dear sir,
One complainant of IPC 406,420 on oath admits in cross examination that he gave wrong answer of one question. then Deffence lawyer gave application for notice should be given for cr.p.c 344 against complainant. whether he is liable for punishment?If accused not convicted then also he is liable for punishment.
