What is an alternative plea. How it should be pleaded in the plaint. Pls explain with an example.

What is the difference between the alternative plea and a cause of action.

If an alternative plea forms a part of cause of action how it should be dealth with. What is the reason behind allowing inconsistent alternative plea by a court of law.

Please clarify.
