An advocate is an officer of the Court and legal profession is not a trade or business, rather it is an officer of the court and legal profession is not a trade or business rather it is a noble profession and advocates have to strive to secure justice for their clients within legally permissible limits. R.N. Sharma Advocate v. state of Haryana , 2003 (3) RCR (Cri) 166 (P&H).

IN AFORESAID CASE OF RAM NARAIN SHARMA ONLY DUTIES OF AN ADVOCATE IN THE COURT HAD BEEN DISCUSSED BUT RIGHTS OF AN ADVOCATE IN THE COURT WERE NOT DISCUSSED.HOWEVER IT IS A FACT THAT AN ADVOCATE IS AN OFFICER OF THE COURT.

An Advocate is an officer of the Court but is also a public servant when he is authorised by the Court/ government to do some other acts like Notary Public, Oath Commissioner, Local Commissioner etc.

All Advocates are Officers of the Court but not vice-versa.

S.21 IPC, 1860 comes into action to help as well under PC Act.
