VRS for one catagory of employees in one unit (company has several units in many cities

Hi,

Recently my company announced (on notice board) VRS scheme for one particular category of employees (shop floor workers) in only one unit. Can company do this? though the employees in other categories and units are eligible as per VRS scheme criteria?.

Please give your opinion.

The Company can offer VRS selectively. Not only this, even it can refuse to accept the VRS of certain persons, even though they are otherwise eligible and covered under the VRS Scheme.

Yes, I agree with Mr. Ramachandran. It is the discretionary powers of the company , how it runs its establishments. It can form separate policies for separate units are can adopt same policies for its every establishment. There is nothing wrong, if if announce VRS scheme for one unit and other units are left.

It depends upon the sole discretion of the organization. The category of employees of that department might have been considered surplus and redundant by the company.
