Re-examination pertains to re-join witnesses in the matter in hand of investigating officer. Sometime higher police officer want to re-examine witnesses or some time any other major twist in the case may take place and if necessity is felt to examine the already impleaded witnesses then all those may be called and may be asked specific questions accordingly.

Generally no benefit out of this process can be derived by defence side rather this may go against that side, however, it depends upon facts and circumstances of each and every case.
